3.1       Specialty Training Committees

Specialty Training Committees (STC) apply only to specialty training and are normally specialty-specific advisory committees which act on behalf of the Postgraduate Dental Dean and deal with all aspects of specialty training.

The main functions of the STC are:

  • Implement policy, standards and regulations for specialty training having regard to the requirements of the JCPTD and the relevant SAC
  • Facilitate delivery of training programmes
  • Review and monitor progress for all trainees on a regular basis, including review of ARCP outcomes awarded by a regional/national panel
  • Liaise with other national bodies involved in specialty training
  • Provide a forum for discussion on all matters relating to specialty training

3.2       General Dental Council

The General Dental Council (GDC) quality assures specialty training according to the standards and requirements laid out in the Standards for Specialty Education: standards-for-specialty-education_201957938ec311144e9ba74d9565d7b1b118.pdf (gdc-uk.org)
